Bayer Leverkusen pulled off a stunning win to claim the German Super Cup, despite being down to 10 men since the 37th minute.
This victory is Leverkusen’s third title in just 13 months, adding to their Bundesliga and DFB Pokal wins under manager Xabi Alonso.
The match was packed with action. Leverkusen’s Nigerian star Victor Bonny scored first in the 11th minute, but Stuttgart quickly equalized just four minutes later through Enzo Millot. Stuttgart then took the lead in the 63rd minute thanks to Deniz Undav, putting Leverkusen in a tough spot.
Despite being a man down, Leverkusen didn’t give up. Patrik Schick scored a crucial goal in the 89th minute, sending the game into a penalty shootout. Leverkusen held their nerve in the shootout and emerged victorious.
This win marks Bayer Leverkusen’s fifth title ever, with three of those coming under Xabi Alonso. The team’s determination and resilience have paid off once again, solidifying their place as one of Germany’s top teams.
