Singer Portable Arrested in Abeokuta Over Criminal Defamation Allegations

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been arrested by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command over allegations bordering on criminal defamation and related offences.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest followed a formal petition filed by one Mr. Okunola Saheed, also known as “Osupa,” who accused the artist of making defamatory statements, issuing threats, and using language capable of inciting public unrest.

The statement outlined several charges including criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the Command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin,” the police said.

Acting on the warrant, officers from the Command tracked and arrested Portable in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

He was then transferred to Ilorin where he was interrogated in the presence of legal representatives from both parties.

Portable, known for his controversial behavior both on and off social media, has faced several run-ins with the law in the past.

His legal team has yet to release an official statement regarding the latest arrest.
