Popular gospel sensation, Sinach, has found herself at the center of a legal storm as renowned music producer Michael Oluwole, widely known as Maye, files a N5 billion lawsuit against her over alleged copyright infringement.
The dispute revolves around Sinach’s 2016 global hit, Way Maker. In court documents bearing the suit number FHC/L/CS/402/2024, Maye seeks recognition as a co-author and co-owner of the iconic song.
He is also demanding N5 billion in general damages for what he terms a “cumulative infringement” of his rights.
Sinach, however, vehemently denies the allegations, asserting her sole authorship of the track.
She further highlighted her global prominence as an artist even before the release of Way Maker.
The case, which commenced on Wednesday, 27th of November, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Lagos, has now been adjourned to 29th and 30th of January, 2025, for further proceedings.
