…say suspect poses as Okada rider
Police in Ogun have raised the alarm that an unidentified serial killer is currently on the prowl in the Remo axis of the state.
Remo, located in the Ogun East Senatorial District, is made up of Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas of the state.
Only last week, a female student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, was raped and killed in the axis by unknown persons.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement that “the modus operandi of the serial killer is to pretend as a commercial motorcyclist, popularly known as okada rider, and pick his targeted victim as a passenger.”
Oyeyemi said such victims are mainly women, who would be “taken to an isolated area, raped and brutally murdered in cold blood.”
The PPRO disclosed that the command is making efforts to apprehend the suspected serial killer, warning the public to be on their guard and be wary of any okada riders with whom they want to embark on a journey, especially at night.
The police spokesman added, “For safety reasons, the command hereby advises that passengers should endeavour to demand the phone number of any okada rider who wants to carry them in the night.
“They should also make a call to such number to ascertain its authenticity.
“This will give security agencies a lead in their investigation in the event of any untoward development.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has assured Ogun residents that everything would be done to fish out the serial killer within the shortest possible period.
The police commissioner urged the masses to cooperate with the police by giving useful information that can assist in the onerous task.
