The senator representing the Katsina North senatorial district. Ahmad Babba Kaita has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress for the Peoples Democratic Party.
Katsina North is the senatorial district of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Kaita’s resignation was contained in a letter Senate President Ahmad Lawn read during plenary on Tuesday.
Two other APC senators also dumped the party, according to separate letters the Senate president equally read during the plenary.
The two senators are the lawmaker representing Edo North senatorial district, Senator Francis Alimikhena, who also defected to the PDP, and Senator Lawal Yahaya Gumau, Bauchi South, who dumped the APC for the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Kaita’s letter read, “As Senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District, I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), and registration declaration for the Peoples Democratic Party.
“My resignation from the APC was born out of the marginalisation of critical stakeholders by the State Government and Leadership of the Party in Katsina State, where small people like me do not have a chance.
“I have since been joyful and graciously accepted into the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party in Katsina State.”
Senator Alimikhena, on why he left the ruling party said his decision was a result of a “continuing and multifaceted crisis that has bedevilled the APC”, especially in his Senatorial District, “that has created parallel executives that have undermined internal discipline, cohesion and focus.”
