Senator John Azuta-Mbata has been elected as the 13th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organisation.
Azuta-Mbata’s election was held on Friday in Enugu during the organisation’s executive elections.
He succeeds Fidelis Chukwu, whose tenure has come to an end.
The former senator, who hails from Rivers State in South-south Nigeria, represents a historic milestone as the first Ohanaeze President-General from the region.
The election process, conducted through voice voting, also saw the selection of 15 other executives for various positions within the organisation.
Azuta-Mbata, who served as a senator representing Rivers East from 1999 to 2007, is expected to bring a wealth of experience to his new role as leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
