The Senate on Tuesday held a special valedictory session to honour the memory of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the National Assembly until his death.
Senator Ubah’s casket was placed in state at the foyer of the White House wing, positioned in front of the Senate Chamber.
The day’s agenda was dedicated solely to the session, listed simply as “Valedictory Session.”
Senate President Godswill Akpabio led the proceedings, dressed in traditional Isi-Enyi attire, accompanied by a red cap and dark sunglasses.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele also donned traditional Isi-Agwu attire. Senator Ubah’s seat in the chamber was adorned with flowers and draped in fabric reflecting the colours of the Nigerian flag.
The session welcomed dignitaries and special guests who came to pay their respects. Among the attendees were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige, and former Senator Uche Ekwunife.
Spouses of Senate officials, including Ekaette Akpabio, Hajiya Jibrin Barau, and Oluyemisi Bamidele, were present at the ceremony to show their support.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, led House leaders in a solemn walk around the late senator’s casket.
The atmosphere was heavy with grief as senators and guests reflected on Senator Ubah’s life and contributions to the legislature, marking a poignant farewell to the late lawmaker.
