Shehu Gabam, National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), convened a high-level strategic meeting on Tuesday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.
The gathering included prominent political figures such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former military aide Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, and Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s campaign.
According to Showunmi, the meeting focused on opposition strategies for the 2027 general elections.
Sharing details on Facebook, he wrote: “Ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections, a key meeting was held by His Excellency Shehu Gabam, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with political figures including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, and Segun Showunmi, known as ‘The Alternative.’
“The meeting aimed to review the current state of opposition politics and find ways to strengthen it for the upcoming elections.”
In another post titled “You must set forth at dawn” on X (formerly Twitter), Showunmi elaborated: “A strategic meeting called by HE Shehu Gabam, Chairman of SDP, with HE @elrufai El-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Otunba Segun Showunmi.
“‘The Alternative’ to meet and greet and review the state of opposition democratic engagement in Nigeria.”
The SDP chairman and his colleagues reportedly discussed key issues impacting opposition politics and strategies to bolster the party’s relevance ahead of the next electoral cycle.
