Samsung Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee Dies at 63, Leaving Legacy of Innovation

Samsung Electronics has suffered a significant loss with the passing of Han Jong-Hee, co-CEO and vice chairman, who died on March 25, 2025, at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest, the company confirmed.

Born in 1962, Han dedicated 37 years of his career to Samsung, playing a crucial role in establishing the company’s dominance in the global TV and consumer electronics market. His leadership and expertise in display technology propelled Samsung to the forefront of the industry.

Appointed vice chairman and co-CEO in 2022, Han oversaw Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile divisions, steering innovation and expansion efforts that solidified the company’s position as a global technology leader.

In an official statement, Samsung paid tribute to his contributions, stating:

“He dedicated more than 37 years of his life to leading Samsung’s TV business to become a global leader. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Han’s passing occurred just days after he chaired Samsung’s annual investor meeting, where he addressed concerns about the company’s stock performance and economic challenges.

During the event, he reassured investors about Samsung’s strategic direction, acknowledging obstacles in semiconductor mergers and acquisitions while emphasizing the company’s commitment to achieving “tangible results” in 2025.

A graduate of Inha University with a background in electrical engineering, Han joined Samsung in 1988, quickly rising through the ranks due to his expertise in display technology. Before becoming co-CEO, he played a pivotal role in Samsung’s display operations, helping shape the company’s dominance in the sector.

As of now, Samsung has not announced a successor for Han’s position.

His passing marks the end of an era for the company, leaving behind a legacy of technological advancements, visionary leadership, and innovation that reshaped the global tech landscape.
