A former member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Dawari George, on Friday resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
George, a close ally of the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, thanked the party for its support during his time with them.
In the letter which was addressed to the chairman of APC ward one in Asari Tori Local Government Area of the state, George said “I wish to resign my membership in the APC.
“I will always cherish the friendship and brotherhood which enforced our camaraderie in the party. Please accept the assurances of my best regards.”
The resignation of the former Commissioner for Youths has thrown the APC into confusion as George commands a lot of respect and followership in the state, especially among the youths.
It is believed that his decision to leave the party followed the refusal of Amaechi to nominate him for a position in any federal parastatal or agency since 2015.
A member of the party, who declined to have his name on print, told our correspondent that the resignation of George was expected and long overdue.
He said the leader of the party in the state should be blamed for the dwindling fortunes of the APC in Rivers because of his refusal to reward loyalty.
“Many more people will leave the party. Amaechi is not doing things right. Dawari George has been loyal to him and has served him but for years now no reward. Even when opportunities are there he will give to people who are not worth it.
“I am afraid, with the way things are going, the APC stands no chance at all in the 2023 general elections. I urge leaders of the party to prevail on Amaechi to drop his ego and begin to appease people”, he said.
