A Federal lawmaker, Hon. Fred Agbedi has commended Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on his numerous achievements within his two years in office, describing the state under him as safe and progressing.
Agbedi, in an exclusive interview with FirstNews in Abuja, said the level of development in the state clearly showed the clear headed and focused leadership style of the governor.
The lawmaker, therefore, urged Governor Diri to continue in that right direction.
He stated that Diri had achieved so much within the period inspite of the financial situation of the state, which, according to him, further buttressed how prudent the governor had been in the management of scarce state resources.
He said, “He (Governor Diri) has done very well. A number of times I have gone with him to inspect ongoing projects. It’s quite encouraging, considering the lean financial situation this country is going through.
“I’m sure he has lots of projects to showcase in this second anniversary. So, there will be a lot of inauguration of projects that are going to take place.”
The lawmaker also pointed out that Governor Diri’s open door policy had enthroned a new order of peace and stability in the state, as even members of the opposition see him more as a friend than foe.
His words, “Again, it’s not just projects, the peaceful atmosphere is very important. Today, if you talk to the opposition parties in the state, all Bayelsans can travel to the state without any fear of molestation or harassment or any kind of tension or aggression they’ll be confronted with when they go to their state.
“Indigenes of Bayelsa, no matter the party or political divide they belong to, travel to the state, spend time with their families and loved ones, with their party members without any fear and that is the most important thing.
“In terms of security, there is no security situation that is perfect across the globe. But I think that Bayelsa remains one of the most secure states in the country. The governor is always extending hand of fellowship to the opposition, to all Bayelsans, be you a politician or not. Bayelsa is one and as the Governor will always say, we all need to come together to collectively contribute to the development of the state.
“The governor is very accommodating. He has a peaceful disposition and a lovely mien that attracts all and sundry to come and join him in the development of the state.”
