The House of Representatives has praised Niger State Governor Umar Bago for his exceptional leadership, particularly in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure, and religious tolerance.
The commendation came on Tuesday following remarks by Babajimi Benson, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, during a session on personal explanations.
Benson highlighted Governor Bago’s passion for agricultural development, noting that a military general from Cameroon, who was unfamiliar with the governor, had recently called to express admiration for his efforts.
Benson said, “Governor Bago has shown uncommon passion in the agricultural revolution, infrastructural development, and religious tolerance.”
Supporting Benson’s sentiments, Saidu Abdullahi, a representative from Niger State, echoed the praise, calling it a “bright day for Niger State.”
Abdullahi praised the governor’s commitment, mentioning that Bago had dedicated 250,000 hectares of land for sugarcane cultivation. “Niger State has the potential to feed the entire nation,” he added.
Abdullahi also emphasized the governor’s inclusive leadership, stating that there is no opposition in the state, as all political parties are treated equally by Bago.
He further noted that the governor had provided cars to lawmakers, regardless of their party affiliation, as a demonstration of unity.
This recognition comes at a time when Bago’s agricultural initiatives are gaining attention for their potential to transform the region’s economy and boost Nigeria’s food security.
The governor’s approach has drawn praise from various quarters, marking a significant milestone in the state’s growth.
