Reps Begin 2025 Budget Defence Tuesday

The House of Representatives will commence the defence of the 2025 appropriation bill by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) on Tuesday.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Bichi, on Monday after a meeting with chairmen of statutory committees at the National Assembly.

Bichi expressed optimism that the budget would be passed before or by the end of January 2025.

On December 18, 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presented the ₦49.7tn 2025 Budget Proposal before a joint session of the National Assembly.

Dubbed “The Restoration Budget,” it prioritizes security, infrastructure, health, and education.

Key allocations in the budget include:

Defence and security: ₦4.91tn
Infrastructure: ₦4.06tn
Health: ₦2.4tn
Education: ₦3.5tn

During his presentation, Tinubu described the budget as a framework for “securing peace and building prosperity” in Nigeria.

With deliberations set to begin, the House is working towards ensuring the timely passage of the budget.

This aligns with the Senate’s earlier announcement to conclude its review and approval by January 31, 2025.

The appropriation bill represents a critical step in addressing Nigeria’s economic and developmental priorities for the year ahead.
