Radda Declares War on Banditry, Launches Grassroots Security Plan

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to stamp out banditry in the state, promising stronger and more decisive action to restore peace and protect lives.

The governor made this known on Friday during a condolence visit to Gobirawa village in Dutsinma Local Government Area — a community still reeling from a recent bandit attack that left several residents dead.

Speaking to grieving families and local leaders, Radda expressed deep sorrow over the incident and pledged intensified efforts to support both formal security agencies and community-led defence structures.

“The government, upon receiving intelligence on the planned attack, swiftly deployed security personnel to the area,” Radda said. “Unfortunately, the attackers struck immediately after the security team left. This is heartbreaking, but we will not relent.”

As part of immediate measures, the governor directed the Chairman of Dutsinma LGA to nominate five community representatives for a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening grassroots security collaborations.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, particularly targeting informants believed to be aiding criminal elements within the region.

“Security is not the job of government alone. We need communities to stand strong and help expose those working against peace,” he added.

The governor was accompanied on the visit by State Assembly member Mohammad Khamis, Yandakan Katsina District Head Alhaji Sada Sada, Council Chairman Kabir Shema, and other prominent local figures.

In a separate engagement, Governor Radda visited Charanci LGA to inspect the Smart School project in Radda — one of three model secondary schools under construction across the state’s senatorial zones.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on the site, warning contractors against delays and urging them to ensure quality delivery in line with the state’s vision for equitable and modern education.

“These schools are for the children of everyday people. We will not compromise on quality or timelines,” he stated.

The Smart School initiative, Radda noted, is part of his administration’s broader commitment to education reform and empowerment of underprivileged communities.

As Katsina continues to grapple with security challenges, Governor Radda’s dual focus on safety and education underscores a leadership agenda grounded in both immediate response and long-term development.
