Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos was greeted by protest on Wednesday as phone dealers in their hundreds protested the killing of a member, Chikere Obiechi, also known as JB, by a drunken police officer on Sunday evening.
First News gathered that the deceased was killed by a police officer invited by a birthday celebrant to provide security during the celebration.
It was learnt that the trigger-happy policeman was trying to throw a gun salute while JB was spraying money at the celebrant, but mistakenly killed both JB and the celebrant.
Reacting with protest in Computer Village, Ikeja, friends and supporters of the late JB trooped out to demand justice while imploring police to fish out the erring officer.
A protester, John Chikwudibe, who spoke with First News said, “The useless police officer just killed JB for us. He was a man too nice for this incident. He was a generous man that people like a lot. Police must fish out the killer and make him face justice.
Another protester, Wale Damola said “JB was an easy going man who was nice to a fault. It is very painful that he fell victim to the hands of the police officer. The painful issue is that his wife recently gave birth with CS. The matter is serious. Government must provide the police and make him face justice.
Meanwhile police have assured to investigate the matter and to ensure justice is served.
