President Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for ₦1.48trn Rivers State Budget

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally written to the National Assembly, urging lawmakers to approve the proposed ₦1.48 trillion appropriation bill for Rivers State.

The letter, presented during Senate plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, highlights that the funds will be utilized by the Emergency Rule Government in Rivers to boost key sectors including education, agriculture, health, and free drug distribution.

Senate President Akpabio broke down the budget allocation: ₦1 billion is targeted for infrastructure projects; ₦166 billion dedicated to healthcare; ₦75.6 billion for educational development; ₦31.4 billion to support agricultural initiatives; and ₦5 billion set aside for free medicines accessible to all residents.

Following the presentation, the Senate President referred the appropriation bill to the committee overseeing Rivers State’s emergency rule.

The committee is expected to expedite its review and report back to the Senate as soon as possible.
