President Biden to Honor Messi, Denzel Washington with Top US Award

On Saturday (today), 4th of January, 2025, President Joe Biden will present the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom to 19 remarkable individuals.

As the highest civilian honor in the United States, the award recognizes exceptional contributions by trailblazers across entertainment, sports, politics, and diplomacy.

This year’s honourees reflect a dazzling spectrum of talent and influence. Musician and activist Bono, basketball icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and fashion powerhouse Anna Wintour are among the distinguished recipients. Joining them are football superstar Lionel Messi of Inter Miami, acclaimed actors Denzel Washington and Michael J. Fox, and legendary designer Ralph Lauren.

In a White House statement, the recipients were celebrated as “great leaders who are good people, having made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world.”

The ceremony will also spotlight culinary innovator Chef José Andrés, founder of World Central Kitchen, and renowned environmentalist and primatologist Jane Goodall. Other prominent honourees include billionaire philanthropist George Soros and former First Lady, senator, and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, whose legacies have left an indelible mark on global and domestic spheres.

This year’s lineup showcases individuals whose work transcends boundaries, inspiring a better future for all.
