IBRAHEEM HAMZA MUHAMMAD, ABUJA
Police have teargassed accredited journalists covering the ongoing All Progressives Congress ( APC ) Special Convention in Abuja.
According to one of the affected journalists, who simply identified herself as Miss Yemisi, ” I just recovered from the tear gas they sprayed on me and many of my colleagues. What kind of barbaric behaviour is this?
“Despite our tags and equipment every where! This is so uncalled for. Please, if they won’t allow us to enter, let’s go back to our various homes.
“I am a young girl, working hard. I am well-dressed, obviously with my tag and the next thing is to use tear gas on me?
“I won’t lose my life because of people who do not value human life.”
But APC National Publicity Secretary, Barr Felix Mokpa said, “I am sorry about the incident involving the use of tear gas by the police at the Foreign Affairs Ministry Access Gate of Eagle Square.
“Some of our accredited journalists were affected. As soon as I was notified, I went there and helped to give access to all accredited journalists.”
Recall that similar incident occurred at the recent PDP Special Convention where journalists, including First News correspondent and many others were teargassed at the entrance to the crowded Eagle Square.
