Police Commend Ogun Youths for Upholding Peace, Avoiding Planned Protests

Ogun State Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu has praised local youths for their decision to avoid the planned protests associated with #FearlessOctober1, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere in the state.

Speaking with reporters in Abeokuta on Tuesday, Alamutu noted that the anticipated demonstrations in Abeokuta and other areas did not take place, thanks to the youth’s choice to abstain from participating.

“A meeting was held on Sunday with critical stakeholders to ensure that no protest was held in the state,” Alamutu said.

“Presently, there is palpable calm in the state, because at the general stakeholders meeting, we consulted with all critical stakeholders in the state. We told them to speak with their wards to shun any violent demonstration. I think it’s working for now, as there has not been a sign of any violent protest in the state.”

While the situation remains stable, Alamutu assured that the police are maintaining a vigilant presence.

“Like we said, protest is a fundamental right. What we object to is a situation where some people will hijack a peaceful protest to cause unnecessary crisis in the state,” he added.

David Ojelabi, the State Commandant of the Ogun Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), echoed the Commissioner’s sentiments, confirming that no protests have occurred in the state. He stated that the Corps would remain on alert for any unforeseen events.

“Well, as far as Ogun is concerned, I have not seen any protest anywhere. We had a meeting with the stakeholders, and they kept to their word. Nevertheless, we have to be alert, and that is why our men, including those of other security agencies, are on ground,” Ojelabi said.

Both officials expressed optimism, encouraging Nigerians to remain prayerful and hardworking for the nation’s progress.
