Police Arrest Two Okada Snatchers in Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested two suspected robbers of motorcycle otherwise known as Okada for allegedly snatching a motorcycle belonging to one Daniel Micheal in Owode-Egba.

The suspects equally stole another Okada belonging to one Majek Obasanjo, and also robbed him of his Itel phone and N13, 200.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Odutola said that the suspects, Abibu Yusuf, 23, and Sanni Said, 30, were arrested following eyewitness confessions of their crime location near the bush path at Fidiwo area in Owode-Egba.

She said the suspects stole the bike of Daniel with the registration number: L358 valued at one million naira and also snatched one Obasanjo’s Okada with the sum of N13,500 and his Itel phone despite putting up a fight with them

“In recent times, statistics have shown an increase in motorcycle robbers across Ogun State, and with the surge in the series of armed motorcycle robberies, the Ogun State Police Command as part of its end-of-year security sensitization is beaconing on indigene of the state to be at alert either as a pillion or as commercial rider so as not to fall victim of the such armed robbery.

“On the 2nd of October, near Fidiwo in Owode Egba, Ogun State, a complainant one Daniel Michael a motorcycle owner reported that he was disposed of his TVS motorcycle with registration number L 358 valued at one million naira. He narrated that two men suddenly came out from the bush armed with a rod, and they used the road to hit him on his chest and back, after which, while he was unconscious the duo stole his motorcycle, but stated he recognised them despite the injuries inflicted on him.

“Similarly one Majek Obasanjo of same address, reported that he has robbed of his bike at the exact bush path, but he was courageous enough to launch a counter attack, and while wrestling with the perpetrators, the criminals stole Majek’s Itel phone with the sum of thirteen, two hundred naira, then took to their heels.

“Fortunately, some persons who were eyewitnesses at the scene recognised the fleeing suspects as Abibu Yusuf “m” aged 23 and Sanni Saidu @m” aged 30 all of northern extraction. Based on the eye witness account, the police later apprehended Abibu and Saidu and were taken to the scene of crime, and two cutlasses were recovered.” Odutola said

She added that efforts are on top gear by the Divisional Police Officer of Owode Egba to cleanse the area of such criminals and prosecute the arrested suspects to serve as a deterrent to others.
