Bayelsa State Police Command has said that its detectives have arrested three suspects for attempted ritual killing.
The command also said the arrest was made possible through the collaborative efforts of youths of Sagbama community in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, Mr Asinim Butswat, said on Monday that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were aged 15, all males and natives of Sagbama.
Butswat, who gave the suspects names as Emomotimi Magbisa, Perebi Aweke and Eke Prince, said they allegedly accosted their victim, Endeley Comfort, female, 13 and hypnotised her to follow them to the apartment of Magbisa in Sagbama community.
He said the suspects on getting to the apartment of Magbisa, allegedly cut off Comfort’s finger and sprinkled the blood on a mirror for ritual purposes.
Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, said vigilant youths of the community noticed the suspicious movements of the suspects and raised the alarm.
He said the suspects were subsequently arrested and some substances suspected to be charms were recovered from them.
He equally said the suspects had confessed to the crime.
Butswat said the victim (Comfort) was rescued and rushed to the hospital for medical attention, adding that the suspects had been transferred to the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the command for discreet investigation.
The spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, Ben Nebolisa Okolo, commended the efforts of the community youths for their vigilance.
