Troops of 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN have arrested a notorious cult leader in Plateau State.
The arrest came following an intelligence report that a cult group identified as Jungle Boys was planning to launch an attack on prominent individuals, including political office holders and community leaders, over the ban on illegal mining in the state.
The Media Information Officer for OPSH, Major Samson Zhakom, disclosed this in a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page in the late hours of Sunday.
According to the statement, the criminal suspect, Fidelis Adamu was arrested on 20 March at Angwan Gainyeh in Sakon-Gyel axis in Jos South local government area of Plateau State.
Zhakom disclosed that the suspect is in custody, making useful confessions while troops are on the trail of other members of the cult group.
Similarly, as part of the ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, on March 23, the troops responded to information about criminal activities around the Youth Centre at Sabon Layi Axis in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

It added that the entire area was searched by the troops, leading to the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect, Nashak Wilson. An AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition was recovered from him.
Further search operations resulted in the recovery of 30 cows stolen by the syndicate.
The recovered cows have been handed over to the owner, while the arrested suspect, recovered rifle, and ammunition are in custody for further investigation.
“Operation SAFE HAVEN is determined in its quest to sanitise the entire Joint Operations Area of criminal activities and denying criminals freedom of action”, Zhakom said.
