Mr. Val Obienyem, Media Adviser to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has strongly refuted claims that the former Anambra State governor was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a statement on Tuesday, Obienyem described the reports circulating about Obi’s arrest as “false and baseless.”
He clarified that the rumors, which first surfaced on Saturday, had already been debunked but continued to spread.
“As of Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending to important engagements. He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, where he is actively involved in party and national matters,” Obienyem said. “There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrest was made.”
Obienyem further dismissed allegations that Obi’s wife had been arrested, calling it a fabricated story designed to mislead the public and stir unnecessary panic among supporters.
He urged the public to ignore these false claims, emphasizing that any official communication regarding Peter Obi would be released through proper channels.
“Mr. Obi remains focused on his commitment to the nation, while his team continues to provide accurate updates on his activities,” the statement concluded.
