The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over what it described as questionable financial decisions by the administration of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, urging greater transparency in the use of public funds.
In a statement issued on Sunday, May 25, and signed by the Abia PDP Publicity Secretary, Mazi Eric Ikwuagwu, the party called attention to rising public concern over state expenditures and alleged a lack of clarity on how Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is being utilised.
The statement was titled ‘Calls for Accountability Mount as Critics Challenge Abia State’s Financial Management Under Governor Otti.’
The PDP referenced opinions from independent critics, including Scotland-based engineer Engr. Eke Ako and former Finance Commissioner, Chief Obinna Oriaku, who both previously criticised the past administration but are now questioning the current one’s financial choices.
“Engr. Ako consistently held the Ikpeazu administration accountable and was celebrated by those now in power. Today, he applies the same scrutiny to Otti’s administration, but instead of addressing his concerns, they accuse him of being sponsored by the PDP,” the statement read.

Among the figures drawing scrutiny is the reported ₦36.5 billion spent on the 5.7km Port Harcourt Road project, which the PDP noted amounts to ₦6.18 billion per kilometre, a figure they say makes it one of the most expensive roads in Africa.
Other expenditures flagged include ₦6.5 billion on recreational facilities, ₦10 billion on capacity building, and ₦54 billion reportedly spent on renovating schools that critics claim do not exist.
“The quarterly budget performance reports published on the government’s own website contain these facts. Instead of addressing them, the government has remained silent,” the PDP stated.
The party urged the Otti-led government to publicly explain these expenditures and reaffirm its commitment to financial accountability as it nears its second anniversary in office.
