Elder Yemi Akinwonmi has been affirmed as the acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Akinwonmi, who before his new position, was the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the party, was affirmed the acting chairman of the major opposition party by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).
According to the party’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the NWC took the decision during its closed door meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
Mr Akinwonmi will now act as the national chairman of the party instead of Uche Secondus, who last Monday was ordered by a Rivers State High Court to stop parading himself as the chairman of the PDP.
The development is coming after two days of fight over who leads the party following Secondus’ sack.
Ologbondiyan told newsmen on Thursday, “Elder Yemi Akinwonmi was unanimously affirmed as Acting National Chairman.
“We will be holding our caucus and another NWC meeting tomorrow preparatory to holding our National Executive Council meeting at 12 ‘O’clock on Saturday.”
