No respite yet for the Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Uche Secondus, over the plot to have him removed as the chairman of the party.
This is especially as the Monday meeting of the governors of the party in Abuja yielded no tangible result.
There have been moves to remove Secondus as the PDP chairman and some of the stakeholders of the party, it was gathered, had even given him options to either resign from the office or risk being sacked.
A meeting of the party governors in Abuja on Monday, which was believed may proffer solution to Secondus travails, however, ended without any solution to the development in the party.
The party’s National Working Committee is said to have been divided with six members calling for the chairman’s immediate resignation.
However, members of the PDP House of Representatives caucus are said to have disagreed with the call for the chairman’s resignation.
Recall that the country’s main opposition party has been in a serious crisis since last week after seven members of its NWC resigned over their opposition to Secondus’ style of leadership.
Meanwhile, sources said that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who allegedly is bent on Secondus’ removal, has rallied his colleagues in PDP to ensure that is achieved by all means.
It was, however, gathered that pro-Secondus members led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, are insisting that Secondus will not be removed.
Tambuwal while briefing the media after the meeting on Monday said, “We discussed extensively on matters of the moment concerning our party. And we have collectively resolved to continue to work together in unity. This meeting will be continuing tomorrow with other stakeholders.
“Very soon, Nigerians and indeed all of you will hear our solution but we are working towards resolving all issues, as a family and by the grace of God, we are going to achieve that.”
The press briefing, however, came to an abrupt end when a reporter asked if it was true that the governors passed a vote of confidence in the Secondus-led NWC.
Other governors who attended the meeting included Oluseyi Makinde (Oyo), his Delta and Edo state counterparts, Ifeanyi Okowa and Godwin Obaseki respectively. Others are Samuel Ortom (Benue); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, (Enugu); Okezie Ikpeazu, (Abia); Adamu Fintiri (Adamawa); Bala Mohammed, (Bauchi); Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa).
