PDP Imploding: 40 Lawmakers, Two Govs Plot Defection

— Ugochinyere demands Wike’s expulsion, Damagum’s sack

The Nigeria Lawmakers Opposition Coalition has revealed that 40 federal lawmakers and two state governors are on the verge of defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a deepening crisis and loss of confidence in the party’s leadership.

Speaking at a press briefing in Akokwa, the coalition’s spokesperson and member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, said the PDP is rapidly losing its grip due to internal sabotage and directionless leadership.

“The founding fathers of the PDP would be ashamed of what the party has become,” Ugochinyere lamented. “For two years, the leadership has failed to resolve its internal crisis because they are the very ones undermining the platform that brought them to power.”

He demanded the immediate sack of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the expulsion of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Imo State.

The coalition further called for the emergence of a substantive national chairman from the North Central zone to restore the party’s balance and credibility.

Taking a swipe at Damagum’s reliance on “divine guidance” in managing party affairs, Ugochinyere asked: “Where was God when the North Central was sidelined? When defectors from the APC were supported in court or handed party structures? And yet you speak of faith in God?”

He also questioned Wike’s continued membership in the PDP despite what he described as “open romance” with the APC-led federal government.

Erosion Crisis in Ideato

Ugochinyere used the press conference to highlight an urgent erosion disaster threatening his Ideato federal constituency. While commending the federal government for initiating the N25 billion Umuchima erosion control project, he raised the alarm over worsening conditions in the Umuechi-Urualla axis.

“The erosion is dangerously close to swallowing key infrastructure including St. Jude’s Catholic Church, the king’s palace, and major roads. The situation is dire,” he warned.

He revealed that a previous World Bank erosion project worth N9 billion was abandoned due to mismanagement by the former state administration, leaving communities more vulnerable.

The lawmaker appealed to the federal government and Ministers of Works and Environment to intervene urgently to prevent loss of lives and property.

“We need immediate action. Our people are at risk of being completely cut off by this devastation,” he said.
