PDP Criticizes Tinubu’s 64th Independence Day Speech as ‘False Claims, Empty Promises’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s 64th Independence Day speech, describing it as a “lethargic and windy rhetoric” filled with false performance claims and hollow promises.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, issued a statement on Tuesday, asserting that the address failed to address the pressing economic and security issues plaguing the nation under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Ologunagba stated, “Nigerians are appalled that the President’s speech was a complete waste of time as it did not address issues or proffer any solution to the myriads of economic and security problems created by the APC government, for which Nigerians are hurting.”

He added that the speech further highlighted the administration’s “insensitivity” to the struggles of Nigerians, reinforcing the PDP’s stance that there is “no hope in sight” under the APC-led government.

The PDP also criticized Tinubu’s failure to tackle the ongoing economic hardships, such as rising unemployment, poverty, and hunger, which have worsened under his leadership.

Ologunagba noted, “It is indeed shocking that Mr President’s speech practically trivialized the very grave issues… by claiming that about 10 percent of Nigerians have been plunged into hunger when confirmed reports show that over 100 million Nigerians can no longer afford their daily meals and other necessities of life under the APC watch.”

The party urged President Tinubu to engage more directly with the public, suggesting he take a walk with youths or visit markets to witness firsthand the suffering caused by his administration’s policies.
