The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly opposed the attempt to remove Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, warning that such actions threaten political stability in the state.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the state PDP Chairman, Chief Nname Ewor, criticized the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly for fueling political tension instead of fostering peace.
He argued that the impeachment move was not in line with the Supreme Court’s directive to resolve the crisis in Rivers State.
“The lawmakers cannot, at this moment, contemplate impeachment when Governor Fubara and his team are implementing the Supreme Court judgment,” Ewor said. “We wonder what exactly Amaewhule and his 26 lawmakers want from the governor and the people of Rivers State. The court has already granted them all they asked for, even more than they requested.”
Ewor urged Fubara to remain focused and ignore the impeachment notice, assuring him of the party’s full support.
He also called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and rein in those fueling the crisis, warning that further escalation could destabilize the state.
“The war against Rivers State is state-sponsored,” he alleged. “We urge President Tinubu to stop his appointees from weaponizing federal agencies, including the judiciary. Nigeria already faces enough security challenges; there is no need to create another crisis in a peaceful state like Rivers.”

Ewor further condemned the alleged withholding of Rivers State’s federal revenue allocations, describing it as an attempt to cripple the state government.
He warned that this could lead to anarchy, as civil servants and pensioners risk not receiving their salaries.
“President Tinubu should remember that laws are made for men, not men for laws,” he said. “Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, he should use his executive powers to ensure that Rivers State gets its due revenue.”
The PDP chairman also urged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his loyal lawmakers to embrace peace, accept the re-presentation of the 2025 budget by Governor Fubara on March 19, and drop the impeachment notice.
“The impeachment move is not part of the Supreme Court’s ruling,” Ewor noted. “It will not bring progress to Rivers State. The state needs governance, not political turmoil.”
The PDP’s strong stance highlights the deepening crisis in Rivers politics, with pressure mounting on both sides to find a resolution before tensions spiral further.
