A party official has been reportedly shot dead near a polling unit in Ogoja, Cross River State.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident while speaking on a radio programme in the state.
The PPRO said soldiers were supposed to keep some distance away from polling units.
It was learnt that the deceased, simply identified as Joe, was a popular bike rider in Calabar, the state capital.
Joe had reportedly travelled to his hometown for the Saturday election.
The killing of the party official has, however disrupted the voting process in the area.
Many voters are now stranded due to the incident.
Some INEC officials and accredited journalist involved in the conduct of the elections were forced to park their vehicles and trek long distances.
