Operatives of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State have successfully thwarted an attempted robbery and rescued a truck driver, identified as Jimoh, who was transporting iron rods worth over ₦50 million from Sagamu, Ogun State, to Osogbo.
The foiled hijack attempt occurred in the early hours of Monday near the Bisi Akande Bridge in Gbongan, when suspected armed robbers, reportedly trailing the truck from Ikire in a Toyota Corolla, intercepted the vehicle around 1:00 a.m.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Yusuf Idowu, the armed assailants posed as task force officials and demanded a waybill from the driver in a bid to gain control of the truck.
“During the encounter, the robbers seized the phone of the truck apprentice and tried to forcefully take control of the wheel,” Idowu said. “The driver, sensing danger, pushed the attackers — along with the apprentice — into the bush, then shouted for help and fled to safety.”
The driver later contacted his employer, who alerted the Amotekun Corps. In response, operatives from Ayedaade Local Government Area swiftly mobilized to the scene, rescuing both the driver and his apprentice unharmed.

An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the suspects, who remain at large.
