Ahead of Saturday, July 16, 2022 governorship election in Osun State, Akin Ogunbiyi has cautioned the electorate against voting for a clueless and secondary school dropout as the governor of the state.
Ogunbiyi is a former gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State.
He recently dumped the party after he was defeated by Ademola Adeleke.
Ogunbiyi, speaking on Monday during a summit organised by the Civil Society Committee for Anti-fraud Election Security in Osogbo, said that one of the candidates contesting to become the governor of the state is a secondary school dropout, and warned the electorate not to give chance for such to become governor of the state.
The insurance magnate tasked the people of Osun to do all within their power to elect a credible and capable candidate so as to change the fortune of the state.
He said, “The problem in Osun is not civil service, it is not the infrastructure, it is about making Osun an industrialised state. It was the vision of the founding fathers to make Osun an industrialised state, but that is yet to happen.
“The only thing to make a change to happen is to elect credible leaders. Do everything within your power to have a credible election in Osun State.”
Speaking further he said, “I want to participate in the governorship election in Osun State. I am presenting myself to the people of Osun and I want to say that I did not say that you must support anybody but present a level playing ground for all to allow a credible leader to emerge.”
Ogunbiyi, in his resignation letter, had accused the PDP of bias in the handling of the gubernatorial primary that saw Adeleke emerged as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
He is yet to join another political party but promised to do so in the coming days.
