Napoli’s sporting director, Cristiano Manna, has confirmed that star striker Victor Osimhen has requested to leave the club amid ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the Nigerian forward.
Osimhen, 25, who recently claimed the title of African Footballer of the Year, has been at the center of intense rumors in recent weeks.
Despite signing a contract extension with Napoli, which includes a substantial £110 million release clause, the prolific striker has reportedly expressed his desire to end his time with the Serie A giants.
Rumors of a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain circulated, but the transfer fell through as the French champions are no longer in the market for a new striker. With the transfer window nearing its close, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain.
“Victor Osimhen has asked to leave the club. He wants to go,” Manna said in a statement shared by renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano.
“The situation is clear; there were already chances for his exit last summer… Victor wants to leave.”
Manna hinted that Osimhen’s future could be resolved soon, adding, “We will see in the next 20 days.”
As the saga unfolds, Napoli faces the challenge of finding a resolution before the transfer window closes, with fans and football pundits eagerly watching to see where the talented striker will land next.
