Nigeria will be without her top striker Asisat Oshoala at the ongoing 2022 Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as the Super Falcons forward has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
Oshoala will not continue the rest of the tournament due to an injury she sustained during the game against South Africa on Monday, July 4.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced this in a tweet on Wednesday, the tweet read: “Sad news from @NGSuperFalcons camp: Top striker @AsisatOshoala is out of the ongoing #WAFCON2022”,
“She sustained a Grade 2 Medial Collateral Ligament sprain in the game against South Africa. She is due back in Spain on Thursday. Get well quick Asisat”.
The departure of Oshoala means Gift Monday or Uchenna Kalu will start for the Super Falcons when they face Botswana on Thursday, July 7, in their second group game.
The Super Falcons currently sit third in Groups C with one game played so far and zero points.
