Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, are once again denied bail by a London Court over their alleged involvement in organ harvesting.
The matter came up in the Westminster Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. The court, rather than granting the couple bail, denied them bail for the second time and directed that they remain in the custody of the country’s police department until August 4, 2022.
Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested and charged for importing a Nigerian, David Ukpo into the UK for alleged kidney harvesting.
The senator, through his lawyer, Gavin Irwin, told the court that he was not involved in any form of exploitation as being accused.
Irwin told the court, “We deny that there was exploitation or intent to do so.”
The defendants’ lawyers have informed the court that a bail application will be submitted before the next court date, August 4.
FirstNews reported that the alleged victim, Ukpo, on Thursday confessed to the court that he was 21 years and not 15 years as earlier claimed.
