…say he has a case to answer, vow to pick him up after investigation
Police in Lagos say they are still investigating music star, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, saying that he has a case to answer.
The police added that that the music star will be arrested after investigation if he fails to report himself to the security agency.
On Monday, Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, had ordered an investigation of Portable over his alleged ties to One Million Boys, a notorious gang terrorising Lagos and Ogun States.
Portable had in a viral video, on Monday, boasted of forming the criminal gang and another notorious group known as Ajah Boys.
“Open your ears and hear me. Have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I’m their founder. Go and ask Sammy Larry,” the controversial musician boasted in Yoruba in the video which he later deleted.
But Portable made a U-turn some hours later, retracted his statement, claiming that he was referring to his fans as One Million Boys.
Following the controversial musician’s claim in the viral video, the IGP directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to launch a probe into his claim.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said, “Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action. This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society.”
But Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said, on Thursday, that the command had yet to conclude “preliminary investigation” on Portable.
But Hundeyin said Portable definitely has a case to answer when investigation is concluded.
“We are still doing preliminary investigation and afterwards he will have to report himself (to the police) or we will get him arrested,” the PPRO said.
