Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has condemned the killing of Olufon of Ifon, Oba Adegoke Adeusi, calling on security agencies to fish out the perpetrators.
He described the incident as sacrilegious while calling for high powered investigation into unmasking the identity of the murderers.
The monarch described Olufon as an asset to traditional institution, stating both traditional and police investigations should be deployed in unravelling his killing.
A statement by Oluwo’s Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, said, “The killing of Olufon of Ifon, Oba Adegoke Adeusi, is an abomination.
“Monarchs are mortal but cold murder of a king is sacrilegious. The perpetrators are enemies of Yoruba tradition and culture. I’ve no doubt that the spirit of revered crowns in Yorubaland will expose them.
“While I commiserate with the immediate family of the deceased and the entire traditional institution, I want to charge the Nigeria Police to constitute a high powered investigation into revealing the identity of the perpetrators.”The late Olufon of Ifon in Ondo State, HRM Oba Adegoke Adeusi, was an asset to traditional institution. The vacuum created by his death would be felt. As such, those who killed him should be revealed by whatever means to serve as deterrent to others.”
Meanwhile, following the killing of the monarch, the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association has expressed worries over insecurity in Southwest despite the commencement of Operation Amotekun in some states.
The association’s National President, Comrade Olalekan Hammed in a statement described the killing of Oba Israel Adeusi as saddening. He said, “We expect more from Amotekun Corps members and we appeal to our state governors to redeploy Amotekun officers as guards to Obas, Chiefs and religious leaders.
“Manning of strategic places should also be part of their duties.”
