Monday Okpebholo has officially been inaugurated as the new governor of Edo State, marking the end of a six-year tenure by Godwin Obaseki at the helm of the South-South state.
The historic ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital, two months after the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured the governorship ticket to the Dennis Osadebay House.
Okpebholo, who ran a highly anticipated campaign, was sworn in alongside his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, as the new leadership took charge of the state.
The event was attended by political dignitaries, party officials, and supporters, celebrating the beginning of a new chapter in Edo’s political landscape.
In his inaugural speech, Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the people of Edo for their support and trust, promising to focus on developmental initiatives that will further progress the state. He vowed to address key issues such as infrastructure, education, and economic growth while ensuring transparency and good governance throughout his administration.
The swearing-in ceremony signifies a peaceful transition of power following the conclusion of Obaseki’s two terms as governor, which has been marked by both significant achievements and notable controversies.
As Okpebholo embarks on his governance, all eyes are on the new administration to fulfill the expectations of Edo citizens and stakeholders.
With the APC’s victory in securing the governorship seat, the party now prepares for the challenges ahead as the new government takes office, marking a critical moment in the state’s political evolution.
