Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, this weekend assured that the party will resolve and overcome its current challenges before the 2023 general elections.
Okowa spoke after a closed-door meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, expressing optimism that the opposition party would go into the elections as one united family to ensure its resounding success and victory.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Nathaniel Ikyur, who disclosed this in a statement, quoted Okowa as saying that the reconciliation process initiated by leaders of the party to resolve all issues that emanated from the presidential primaries and his subsequent emergence as the vice presidential candidate was on.
Stressing that “all issues would be resolved” at the end, Okowa described the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike as a strong party man who had worked very hard for the success of the PDP and would not want to work for another political party.
According to the statement, Ortom, in his remarks corroborated Okowa’s position, saying leaders of the PDP were still discussing correcting whatever that might have gone wrong during the presidential and vice presidential tussles.
Ortom added that Wike, as a critical and major stakeholder of the PDP, needed to be pacified to ensure that the reconciliation process was easy and smooth in the interest of the party.
PDP’s unity going into the 2023 elections is being threatened over Wike’s rift with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the party.
Wike and some of his supporters in the PDP are yet to be pacified after Atiku picked Okowa ahead of Wike as his running mate despite a committee of the party recommending Wike for the position.
Wike, on Friday, faulted a recent interview by Atiku, describing him as a liar and vowing to expose more things about the party and its presidential candidate.
