Olu of Wasinmi Urges Governor Abiodun to Complete Wasinmi International Airport Project

The Olu of Wasinmi, Ọba Sufianu Jolaosho, has appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State to prioritize the completion of the Wasinmi Passenger International Airport, a major infrastructure project started by former Governor Ibikunle Amosun as part of the Ogun State Development Plan (2018-2030).

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday to mark his first-year coronation anniversary, Ọba Jolaosho emphasized the project’s potential for regional development and its socio-economic benefits.

In his address, the traditional ruler praised the airport’s strategic importance and expressed concern that leaving it unfinished could limit growth in the Wasinmi area.

“Having the airport project in Wasinmi would develop my community and attract both local and international investors to come and invest their businesses in the area,” he explained.

“This, in turn, would provide direct and indirect jobs for the residents and bring rapid development to the town.”

The Ogun State Development Plan, stretching from 2018 to 2030, prioritizes transport safety and economic growth. For Wasinmi, the establishment of an international airport could bolster local businesses and increase economic activity in Ogun State overall.

Ọba Jolaosho recalled a previous encounter with Governor Abiodun, where the governor reassured community members that he had not forgotten about the project.

“When we went for a function at Itori, the governor spoke on the airport project at Wasinmi. He said the project is still on his mind and we should exercise patience with him, as there are still many projects on ground to be touched and completed by his administration,” noted the monarch.

In addition to the airport, Ọba Jolaosho highlighted a complementary infrastructure project that could further enhance Wasinmi’s accessibility and economic potential. He pointed to a 10-kilometer road project connecting the community to the Ogun River, which, when complete, will improve transportation for both people and goods across the area.

“The contractors came and met me at the palace and said from Iyana Mosan to Sigo. My chiefs and I walked with them to see how the construction would go,” he said. “They want to construct the road from Wasinmi to Ogun Rivers, and I have told contractors handling the road to employ our people in building the project.”

The monarch also stressed the significance of the dual airport developments – the Passenger Airport at Wasinmi and the Agro-Cargo International Airport at Ilishan in Remo – for advancing Ogun State’s economy. He called on Governor Abiodun to uphold his promise of ensuring the completion of all projects initiated under his administration before leaving office in 2027.

“We are hopeful that this airport will be more than just an unfinished project, and we trust in Governor Abiodun’s commitment to see it through,” Ọba Jolaosho said, affirming his confidence in the state’s leadership.
