NYSC Orders Four Corps Members to Repeat Year for Absconding in Gombe

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken strong disciplinary action against four corps members in Gombe State, ordering them to repeat their service year after absconding from their duty posts. The NYSC also extended the service year of three others for various infractions.

This was disclosed by the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Chinwe Nwachuku, during the Passing-Out Parade for the 2023 Batch “C” Stream I corps members on Thursday. Nwachuku stressed that the sanctions were necessary to uphold the integrity of the program, which demands commitment and discipline from all participants.

“The Corps Disciplinary Committee thoroughly reviewed the offences committed by these corps members, and in line with the established regulations, the appropriate sanctions were applied,” Nwachuku explained.

While celebrating the 1,210 corps members – 662 males and 548 females – who successfully completed their service in Gombe State, Nwachuku emphasized the importance of the NYSC’s core values of duty, discipline, and responsibility. She encouraged the outgoing members to capitalize on the skills and training acquired during their service to become self-reliant and productive members of society.

“As you transition to the next phase of life, I urge you to apply the skills, education, and experiences gained during your service year to whatever path you choose,” she advised.

“Whether it’s furthering your education, pursuing a career, or starting a business, the knowledge you’ve acquired should serve as a foundation for success.”

The decision to penalize absconding corps members underscores the NYSC’s commitment to maintaining a culture of accountability, as it continues to foster patriotism, discipline, and self-reliance among Nigerian youth.
