NPTF Boosts Support for Kano Police Command, Academy

In a bid to strengthen law enforcement across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has announced plans to provide increased resources and support to the Kano State Police Command and the Nigerian Police Academy in Wudil.

This commitment was made public by NPTF’s Executive Secretary, Mohammed Sheidu, during a recent visit to Kano, which is part of an ongoing nationwide tour in collaboration with the House Committee on Police Affairs.

The NPTF is focused on optimizing police operations and improving the effectiveness of the country’s law enforcement institutions.

According to Sheidu, the Nigerian Police Academy, located in Wudil, plays a crucial role in fulfilling the Fund’s mandate, and as such, it will be a focal point of the renewed push for support.

Sheidu emphasized that bolstering institutions like the Academy is key to achieving the Fund’s long-term goals for national security.

In addition to institutional backing, the Commandant of the Police Academy, AIG Abubakar Sadiq, has made a direct appeal for further assistance.

He highlighted critical needs such as utility vehicles and alternative energy sources to address the Academy’s rising operational costs, which currently amount to N11 million monthly.

The NPTF’s commitment to improving police efficiency also extended to practical training. As part of the initiative, Sheidu officially flagged off a five-day training course for officers of the Kano State Police Command.

The course, which focuses on tackling issues such as kidnapping, hostage negotiation, and ransom management, is aimed at equipping officers with global best practices to combat rising security challenges in the region.

With these targeted efforts, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund seeks to create a more efficient and responsive police force that can effectively address the complex security issues affecting various parts of the country.
