The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has confirmed that no lives were lost in a fire that broke out on Saturday at the APMT Apapa Terminal.

In a statement, the NPA reported that its firefighters, alongside other emergency teams at the port, quickly contained the blaze, which started on one of the cranes at the Apapa terminal.

The fire was fully controlled before it could spread or damage other port facilities.

NPA spokesperson Ikechukwu Onyemekara expressed gratitude for the timely response of the agency’s fire team.

“We thank God that no lives were lost in the incident, nor were any other facilities affected by the fire before it was stopped,” he noted.

Onyemekara assured port users and stakeholders that the NPA, under the leadership of Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, remains committed to prioritising safety across Nigerian ports.

He added that the agency is also focused on improving the ease of doing business within the ports.
