Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party, on Thursday, demanded immediate dissolution of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council over alleged domination by party leaders of the Southern extraction.
The Ogun State chapter of the party also passed a vote of no confidence on the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure.
LP State Secretary, Feyisola Michael, who addressed newsmen in Abeokuta, alleged that there had been “southernisation” of the PCC against Northern interest.
Michael explained that since the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the party’s National Chairman hail from the South, the positions of the Director General and the General Secretary of the campaign council should not be occupied by other southerners, Dr Doyin Okupe and Chief Clement Ojukwu.
According to him, in the interest of fairness and the spirit of Federal Character as enshrined in the constitution, the positions should be ceded to the North-East and North-Central.
The Ogun State LP also accused Abure of plans “to illegally discontinue Ogun State LP’s litigation seeking court order on relisting of the candidates list by INEC.”
Michael said Abure plotted to hijack the case currently ongoing in the Federal High Court by taking it over from the Ogun State Legal adviser, Bar Mawah Monday.
He said, “Therefore, we hereby pass a vote of no confidence on “Bar Julius ABURE National Chairman of LP,
Chief Clement Ojukwu National Organizing Secretary, who also doubles as the General Secretary of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, instead of the National Secretary.
“We also demand the following: That the meeting of National Executive Council be summoned immediately to avert further political unrest as the party has been hijacked by PDP dissidents through Clement Ojukwu and Bar Julius ABURE
“The immediate dissolution of the entire Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council to reflect true Federal Character as enshrined in the constitution so that the North East ,North Central, National Secretary and Deputy National Chairman South can all have their constitutional roles openly effected
“That the Director General and Secretary General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council be ceded to the North East and North Central since the Presidential candidate and National Chairman are both from the South.
“The immediate restoration of the National Publicity Secretary to his rightful position in the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council and the Labour Party constitution.”
