The Covid-19 pandemic, which surfaced in December 2019, and got to Nigeria around March 2020, has really affected the entertainment industry in general. The entertainers’ source of livelihood was put on hold – clubs, restaurants, live shows, and cinemas were all shut down.
Of course, cinemas were literally shut down for six months, inspite of being one of the places people go to have fun and relax. Cinemas were reopened after a long time on September 11, 2020, and a lot of people were excited to go to the big screen and watch the movies they had been anxious to see.

OMO GHETTO THE SAGA
Omo ghetto the saga is the continuation of Omo ghetto that was produced 10 years ago. It’s a story about a set of twins separated at birth and living different lives. One of them is a ghetto-bred and also a leader of a notorious female gang, while the other one is raised in a wealthy home but has anger problem. The rich one’s bad temper almost led to the death of her fiancé; she went into hiding for fear of being sent to prison; her twin sister, who is the ghetto kid, behaves in an absurd manner. She was arrested along with members of her group on their way to unleash on an innocent person.
The movie is directed by Funke Akindele-Bello, alongside her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello aka jjc skillz and features Funke Akindele Bello, Eniola Badmus ,Bimbo Thomas, Chioma Akpotha, Timini Egbuson and others.
FATE OF ALAKADA
It is a comedy movie which talks about a lady called Yetunde, a social media influencer, living a fake life and pretending to be successful. Yetunde sneaks into an event with her friend, who is equally living a fake life like herself and pretends to be the planner of the event, after realising that she can earn a lot money from the profession.
She must now fake her way by bringing the celebrity guest she knows and also throw the best party Lagos has ever hosted.
Fate of Alakade was co-produced by Toyin Abraham and Film One Production, directed by Kayode Kasum. It starred the likes of Broda shaggi, Odunlade Adekola, Davido, Cohbams and others.
CITATION
This movie is directed by Kunle Afolayan. It is a drama about sexual assaults on university campus, based on a true event. The story centres on a clever and brilliant post-graduate student, Moremi Oluwa, who accuses her professor of sexual harassment. Moremi while at the tribunal set up by the university authorities, claims that the professor tried to rape her. But the professor on the other hand says reverse is the case; that it was Moremi that tried to seduce and rape him. The movie highlights the problems students face while they are in their various tertiary institutions.
It features Kunle Afolayan, Temilola Otedola, Gabriel Afolayan, Ibukun Awosika, Bukunmi Adeshina and host of others.
QUAMS MONEY
Quams money is the continuation of New Money, which was produced in 2018. It is about a security guard who suddenly became a millionaire. Quams is played by Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz. His life is thrown into chaos after he loses N500 million to a group of fraudsters. The movie was written by Chinaza Onuzo, directed by Kayode Kasum and produced by Inkblot Productions. It stars Falz, Nse Ikpe Etim, Williams Uchemba, Jemima Osunde, Blossom Chukwujekwe and others.
RATNIK
The story is about a World war IIII soldier, who decided to return home after a quarterly phase rotation programme, only to find out that her only sister was on the verge of death due to the abuse of a certain chemical substance. The movie was set in a remote Africa town during the early days of World war III.
It is written by Dimeji Ajibola and stars Bolanle Ninalowo, Adunni ADE, Osas Ighodaro, Mg Otanwa, Kabiri Fubara and others.
KAMBILI
The whole 30 yards movie is a story of a young woman who desires to be married before she turns 30 years of age.
Kambili is an irresponsible spendthrift, who embarks on a plan to convince her boyfriend that she could be the woman of his dreams. The movie features the likes of Toyin Abraham, Nancy Isime, Sharon Ooja, Jide Kene Achufusi, Elvina Ibru and others, and written by Isioma Ogbaji.
Kayode Kasum directed it.
RATTLESNAKE THE AHANNA STORY
The movie is the remake of the 1995 rattlesnake, which was written and directed by Amaka Igwe. Ramsey Nouah decided to retell the story to the new generation so as to make the story linger in the hearts of people. Rattlesnake, the Ahanna story, is about a young man who decided to steal the life he has always wanted; he gathered a group of men with different skills, carrying out a spectacular heist.
It was featured by Osas Igbodaro, Efa Iwara, Tobi Bakre, Bucci Franklin, others, and was produced by Charles Okpaleke.
OLOTURE
The movie sheds light on human trafficking in Nigeria . It is about a journalist who decided to go undercover as a prostitute in order to expose sex trafficking in Nigeria. It is a Netflix movie and it is directed by Kenneth Gyang, and features the likes of Omoni Oboli, Sharon Ooja, Ada Ameh, Beverly Osu, Adebukola Oladipupo and others.
INTR0DUCING THE KUJUS
It’s a comedy –drama that tells the story of five siblings who do not want to go to their home town, Badagry, for their mother’s fifth year memorial. One of them decided to reunite her family and end old feuds; so she planned to bring her siblings together. But for the plans to work, she must play some tricks on them.
The movie puts the light on the Badagry city, which is known for its historical landmarks and relics, such as Gberefu Island (Point of no return), slave museum, first story building, among others. It is directed by Biodun Stephen, Produced by Winifred Okpapi and Bisola Aiyeola, and stars Timini Egbuson, Femi Jacobs, Bimbo Ademoye, Mc Lively, Kunle Remi and others.
NNEKA THE PRETTY SERPENT
The movie is the new version of Zeb Ejiro’s original blockbuster of the early 90s. It’s about a mermaid in human form, whose mission on the planet earth was to go after flirting men. She uses her supernatural powers to mesmerize any man she yearns for and turns him to her zombie.
It is produced by Chris Odeh; also co-produced by Ramsey Nouah and Charles Okpaleke. The cast of the movie are Bovi, Beverly Osu, Ndidi Obi and others.
