Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has denied being invited, questioned or arrested by the Department of State Security.
Reports earlier on Friday had claimed that the Kaduna-based cleric was invited for questioning by the DSS over his remarks against the military.
But speaking to Channels Television after he presided over a Jummat service at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna State, the cleric denied the report, saying, “Nobody Invited me for questioning or any arrest, I can say that categorically.”
In his negotiations with bandits he said, “Since I ventured into the forest, I went there with full security, the police, with the knowledge of the DSS, traditional rulers and the Fulani leaders, I never went alone”.
He denied making any disparaging remarks against the military during his recent live interview on national television.
FirstNews had reported that Voice of America, Hausa Service monitored on Friday said Gumi was invited to DSS office in Kaduna State.
Channels TV had also claimed that the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunaya, told it that “Sheikh Gumi was invited by the Service,” and that “it is not out of place for it to invite any person of interest.”
It added that the DSS did not confirm the rationale behind the invitation.
