The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims circulating on social media that corps members have been directed to upgrade their accounts in preparation for the payment of a N70,000 minimum wage.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the organization clarified that the information is completely false.
“The misleading information making the rounds on social media is absolute falsehood,” Mr. Megwa stated.
The NYSC emphasized that no directive has been received from any government sector responsible for wage matters, making it impossible for the NYSC to issue such an instruction.
“Corps members, parents, and members of the public should note that no directive has been received from any relevant sector of government responsible for wage matters. It is therefore impossible for the NYSC to issue any directive on such,” Megwa clarified.
The organization urged corps members to disregard the false directive and to rely only on approved channels of communication within the NYSC.
“Corps members already know the approved channel and mode of communication in the scheme and should, therefore, ignore the directive accordingly,” the statement added.
Additionally, Mr. Megwa issued a stern warning to bloggers and social media influencers, urging them to refrain from publishing unauthorized statements concerning the management of the NYSC.
He cautioned against the spread of misinformation and advised corps members not to let “mischief makers play on their intelligence.”
The NYSC’s statement comes amid growing concern over the spread of fake news and its potential to cause confusion among corps members and the general public.
