The Media Adviser to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Wachukwu, on Wednesday, dismissed insinuations of an internal rivalry among members of the House.
Wachukwu said on Wednesday that the House of Assembly remained united under the leadership of the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, and would continue to work for the good governance of the state.
According to him, no amount of malicious and unfounded rumours and speculations, suggesting internal wrangling will deter the 27 lawmakers from pursuing their goal.
He said, “It is imperative to state that recent rumours making the roundabout fisticuffs between members are the figments of deluded minds who are daily praying for disunity among the distinguished 27 members of the House.
“Therefore, discerning members of the public should disregard such jaundiced, misleading and pedestrian gossip peddled by mischief makers. It is apparent that such baseless stories of disunity and discord are nothing more than lies from the pit of hell.”
He said that the Assembly was functioning harmoniously under the leadership of Amaewhule, saying all members were fully committed to their constitutional duties and responsibilities.
He added, “The honourable members, who are currently on recess are utilizing this period to recharge and prepare themselves for better services to the people of Rivers State.
“Upon their resumption, the lawmakers will vigorously pursue their constitutional mandate of delivering dividends of democracy to the people through progressive laws, oversight of other arms of government and giving effective representation to their constituents.
“It is important to note that the governance of any state relies heavily on a robust and cohesive legislative body, and it is heartwarming to see that the Rivers State House of Assembly is operating as a unified force, standing firmly behind the Speaker.
“This unwavering support from all members underscores their commitment to the welfare of the people they represent and the progress of the State.
“At a time when political ingratitude and divisions hold sway, the 27 honourable Members of the Assembly have remained steadfast in their support for the Speaker, which is exemplary. It demonstrates their strong belief in his leadership, vision, and ability to drive positive change in Rivers state.
“It is crucial at this time to separate facts from falsehood and not to allow mischievous rumours to cloud our reasoning, because the Rivers State House of Assembly remains intact and fully committed to serving the people it represents for the benefit of the entire Rivers State.”
