The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has announced that its petrol purchasing portal will remain temporarily closed until the current backlog of orders is cleared.
This comes in response to complaints from marketers, who claim that the shutdown has led to round-tripping in product supplies and increased prices.
In a statement, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, explained the reason for the closure.
“We have a significant backlog to address. The closure is intended to prevent us from holding marketers’ funds for an extended period,” he said.
Soneye assured that the portal would be reopened once the backlog is sufficiently reduced, adding, “We are working to address it as soon as possible.”
The NNPC is making efforts to resolve the issue quickly to avoid further disruptions in the petrol supply chain.
