NLC clarifies position on #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, calls for dialogue

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has spoken on the claims that it had withdrew from the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria national protest, branding such reports as “patently false.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 23, NLC President Joe Ajaero clarified that the organization was never the protest’s organizer, and thus, could not withdraw from it.

“The truth is that the Nigeria Labour Congress cannot withdraw from a protest that it did not organise,” Ajaero stated, highlighting the misconception surrounding the NLC’s involvement.

He elaborated that the NLC’s actions, including protests, are governed by internal mechanisms and leadership processes.

Despite not being the driving force behind the protest, the NLC expressed its solidarity with Nigerians facing difficult economic conditions, which they attribute to government policies.

The organization acknowledged the “dire living conditions” and the widespread frustration among the populace.

In a call for constructive engagement, the NLC urged President Bola Tinubu to engage directly with the protest leaders to address their concerns.

The statement emphasized that resorting to force would be “counterproductive” in addressing the nation’s grievances.

“The voice of the people is the voice of God,” the NLC concluded, urging the government to heed the people’s demands and work towards resolving the issues fueling the protests.

The NLC’s stance reflects a broader call for dialogue and peaceful resolution in the face of mounting public discontent.
